The research is focused on coastal ecology, addressing the roles of abiotic factors and biotic processes in structuring coastal soft- and hard-bottom communities of plants and animals. In particularly the community impact of host-parasite interactions are targeted, with special emphasis on (1) parasite life-cycle facilitation (parasitic manipulation), (2) climate-parasitism synergy on host population dynamics and host and non-host community structure, and (3) food-web structure and function. The scientific questions are mainly tackled experimentally in collaboration with both national and international researchers.
