Dr. Kenny Sørensen is currently a Professor (Docent) in Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Aarhus University, Denmark. Kenny holds a MSc degree in Soil Mechanics from Imperial college (2001) and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from University College London (2006).
He is a nominated member of the Technical Comittee TC101 - Laboratory testing, ISSMGE, and member of the Pile Comittee, Danish Geotechnical Society.
Research focus
His research is focused on characterization of the mechanical behavior of challenging fine-grained soils from advanced lab element testing. He has a strong interest in the effects of microstructure, pore water chemistry, structure degradation in addition to rate and time effects. The research furthermore expands to intelligent monitoring of geo-structural integrity and performance, especially in connection to deep foundations and energy geotechnics. With the purpose to support ongoing research and strengthen collaboration with industry and other research institutes he has established two geo test sites in Denmark focusing on High Plasticity clays and soft organic Gyttja.
