Research

I research the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in general practice, with a particular focus on stress, anxiety, and depression. I have contributed to the evaluation of several psychometric tools and have studied the effect of problem-solving conversations on patient well-being in general practice.

Profile

I am a Professor of General Practice at the Department of Public Health at Aarhus University and a practicing physician in Aarhus. I earned my PhD from Aarhus University in 2004 and have since worked as a senior researcher at the Research Unit for General Practice. My research primarily focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in general practice, particularly stress, anxiety, and depression. I have also contributed to the development of clinical guidelines for managing mental health conditions in general practice.

Commissioned

I advise the Danish College of General Practitioners on mental disorders. I participate in the Danish Health Data Authority's work on developing tools for collecting patient-reported health data. Additionally, I advise the Ministry of Higher Education and Science as an expert in mental health in the EU program Horizon Europe.

Cooperation and dissemination

I collaborate with the Danish College of General Practitioners, Danish Regions, and the Danish Health Authority on the development of guidelines, recommendations, and initiatives in the field of mental disorders, with a particular focus on strengthening diagnosis and treatment in general practice. In addition, I serve as subject editor for diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in LEX, Denmark’s National Encyclopedia.

Teaching

I am a course leader and lecturer in General Practice at the Medical Program at Aarhus University. I have contributed to the development of textbooks in general practice, psychiatry, health psychology, and medical communication. Additionally, I have played a role in shaping the general practice curriculum at the Medical Program at Aarhus University.
