Personal profile

Research

Epithelial cells cover all external and internal surfaces of the body and provide barrier functions and/or are responsible for the exchange of substances such as water and ions with the outside world. Potent alkaline secretion is crucial for the proper function of several epithelia and depends on Na+-dependent HCO3- transporters. We study the function and regulation of such transporters with the aim to define these molecular mechanisms as targets for future interventions in disease.

Teaching

Lecturer, class teacher, and examiner in the Cell Biology and Functional Anatomy & Histology. Supervisor for students in Medical Bachelor's theses, research year students and PhD students, and participates in teaching development.
