In my research within the field of statistical genetics, I focus mainly on predicting psychiatric disorders. By evaluating the impact of genetic and environmental heterogeneity on the accuracy of clinical prediction models, I aim to contribute to developing more inclusive and robust prediction models. I hope my research can help reduce bias and health disparities in currently available clinical prediction models.
As a PhD student at the National Centre for Register-based Research, I study how variability in genetic and environmental factors influences the prediction of psychiatric disorders. Besides researching, I co-organize the Anti-Discrimination Working Group (ADWG) at the NCRR. The ADWG promotes informed and inclusive genetics research by addressing bias and discrimination and working to improve equality and diversity in the field.
My research is funded by the Danish Data Science Academy.
I co-organize the Anti-Discrimination Working Group (ADWG) at the National Centre for Register-based Research and the Department of Clinical Medicine. We aim to improve equality and diversity in genetic research.
My collaboration with the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University resulted in an epidemiological study evaluating the clinical utility of polygenic scores for predicting clinical outcomes in bipolar affective disorder patients.
In addition, I am collaborating with research director Andrew Schork and his colleagues at the Institute of Biological Psychiatry in Roskilde to evaluate the effects of family history measures and polygenic scores on common complex disorders.
During my PhD studies, I have taught the course Advanced R at the Faculty of Health. I aim to expand the student’s knowledge through examples and practical exercises. Creating a safe and welcoming environment for the students is one of my top priorities, and I enjoy incorporating icebreakers, energizers and snacks into the daily program.
I have updated and elaborated on the existing course materials written by Florian Privé. The course materials are available online (GitHub).
My areas of responsibility include:
· Independent research
· Data management
· Dissemination of research findings through conferences and publications
· Statistical analysis
· Project management
· Programming in R/R Studio
In addition, I contribute to the discussion about discrimination and bias in genetics research. I aim to increase the inclusivity in the research performed at the National Centre for Register-based Research.
