Professor

 

Research Area 
Jakob Lauring does research in the area of cross-cultural management with particular focus on intercultural interaction in organizations - including knowledge sharing and language use. He mainly studies expatriates and multicultural teams (virtual and face-to-face). Areas of special interest are:

  • International management

  • International organizational behavior
  • International HRM


Academic Experience

  • 2011: Appointed Professor at the Department of Management, Aarhus University.
  • 2008: Appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Management, Aarhus School of Business.
  • 2006: Appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, Aarhus School of Business.
  • 2006: Awarded the PhD degree.
  • 2003: Visit to Department for Management and Employment Relations, Auckland University, New Zealand.
  • 2001: Research degree (master) in Ethnography and Social Anthropology from the University of Aarhus.
  • 1996: Studies at the Department of Cultural Anthropology, Stockholm University, Sweden.

Jakob Lauring has been the editor of a number of books and international journal special issues. He is currently an associate editor of ‘Journal of Global Mobility’.

Markedsføring: Det er hårdt arbejde at være charterturist: Det er slet ikke så nemt at være charterturist - ferieoplevelserne lever sjældent op til de forventninger, der er opbygget før rejsen. Turisterne drømmer om noget anderledes og spændende, men det er svært for dem at udleve, og det ender måske med, at ugen bare går med at ligge ved poolen på hotellet. Når de er kommet hjem, efterrationaliserer de og siger til venner og bekendte: "vi gjorde lige det, vi ville". Har man haft en dårlig ferie, er det nemlig ens eget ansvar, derfor indrømmer man det helst ikke, og ferien bliver omtalt som en succes - også selvom man under turen brugte meget at tiden på at klage til rejseselskabets guider. - En charterferie er i sig selv en lille smule farlig, fordi det leder tankerne hen på masseturisme. Det kan give en vis skepsis over for turistindustrien, allerede inden ferien er begyndt.

Til ingen nytte: Mangfoldighed. Hos Novo tier de stille på mange sprog. hos Arla i Saudi-Arabien taler ledelsen dansk, og de filippinske medarbejdere gætter ud fra rengøringsplanen, om der kommer fint besøg fra Danmark.
