Personal profile

Research

With a background in mathematical statistics, I have worked to describe and understand the long-term trends of marine ecosystems in relation to nutrient inputs, climate change and physical disturbance from human activities. I am engaged in research activities supporting environmental management in Denmark and the Baltic Sea area by developing indicators for ecological status and  integrated assessment systems. A large part of the research has focused on eutrophication and its adverse effects, such as algal blooms, loss of bottom vegetation and oxygen depletion.

Commissioned

My research ranges from basic research to applied research. many of my projects involve policy support for ministeries and agencies, which in Denmark are the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Food and Fisheries. In addition, I have worked a lot for the Swedish  Agency for Marine and Water Management as well as HELCOM/OSPAR.

Cooperation and dissemination

For more than 25 years I have been involved in many national and international research projects, which has given me a wide network of colleagues. With a background in mathematical statistics, my research field has been broad and interdisciplinary.

Teaching

In the past 20 years, I have supervised many PhDs and postdocs in connection with my research projects. The guidance is focused around stimulating the creative thought processes.
