Isabelle Torrance is Professor of Classical Reception in English and Other Modern European Literatures and Cultures at Aarhus University, Director of the Centre for Irish Studies at Aarhus, and Principal Investigator for the ERC-funded project on Classical Influences and Irish Culture (CLIC) (2019-2025). She earned her PhD in Classics from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 and has previously held teaching and research positions at Trinity College Dublin, the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, the University of Nottingham, the University of Notre Dame, and the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies; she has also visited Stanford University on an invited fellowship. Forthcoming books include Classical Antiquity and Medieval Ireland (co-edited with Michael Clarke and Erich Poppe) and Irish Platonisms (co-edited with Daniel Watson), both under contract with Bloomsbury Classical Receptions Series.
Previously published books include Classics and Irish Politics,1916-2016 (Oxford University Press, 2020; co-edited); Euripides (Bloomsbury, 2019), Euripides: Iphigenia among the Taurians (Bloomsbury, 2019), Aeschylus and War (Bloomsbury, 2017; edited); Oaths and Swearing in Ancient Greece (De Gruyter, 2014; co-authored); Metapoetry in Euripides (Oxford University Press, 2013); Aeschylus: Seven Against Thebes (Bloomsbury, 2007).
