Irene Bavuso

Irene Bavuso is an early medieval historian working as postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet). At UrbNet, she investigates written sources and archaeological evidence to explore networks of knowledge and craft production. Her previous research addressed early medieval long-distance connections and trade, social mobility and production, the economic reasons behind religious foundations, and the political relationships between England and the Frankish kingdoms.

Before joining UrbNet, Irene Bavuso graduated with a D.Phil in History at the University of Oxford in 2018, and held postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Historical Research, London, at the Université libre de Bruxelles, and at the DFG-funded ‘‘Migration and Mobility in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages’’ Centre for Advanced Studies at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. She taught history modules at the Oxford Continuing Education Department and at the Tübingen Seminar für Mittelalterliche Geschichte.
