My primary field of interest is the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among youths, and how autobiographical memory and the individual's life story affect this development. The purpose of my PhD project is to investigate whether youths' reactions to traumatic experiences are different than adults', since youths have less life experience and therefore might remember and understand traumas differently than adults. Research in this field is important, both to expand our knowledge in the fields of autobiographical memory and life stories, but also to gain further insights into the mechanisms of PTSD. Such insights could potentially help target and optimize PTSD treatment.
