Personal profile

Research

My primary research areas include chronic inflammatory liver disease, where, over the past 10+ years, I have conducted translational projects involving in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies with a focus on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). In addition, I conduct studies on autoimmune liver diseases (AIH, PBC, and PSC) and rare cholestatic liver diseases.

My research is carried out in collaboration with local, national, and international partners.

Commissioned

I have recently completed three years as a member of the EASL Educational Committee, where I contributed to the planning of the society’s educational activities in hepatology.

I serve as a reviewer for national and international research funding bodies and participate in advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies within the fields of hepatology and liver cancer.

Cooperation and dissemination

Collaboration and synergy are essential to my research, and I have a wide range of collaborators locally at Aarhus University Hospital and Aarhus University. Likewise, I am involved in several collaborations with colleagues at the regional and national levels, and I participate in a number of international networks and collaborations (ERN-RARE-LIVER, CLIF Consortium, etc.).

Teaching

As clinical chair professor, I am responsible for the education of medical students in hepatology and gastroenterology. I also serve as course director for the advanced course in hepatology and gastroenterology, and I participate in educational activities both nationally and internationally, including as a member of the EASL Educational Committee (2022–2025).

I have completed the AU assistant professorship training program and practice engaging teaching with active student participation. I have extensive experience in supervising PhD students and research year students.
