Personal profile

Research

We investigate the role of specific membrane transporters involved in the secretion and pH regulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by the choroid plexus in the brain. Using both in vivo and in vitro methods, we specifically aim to define the role of acid-base transporters involved in CSF regulation in health and disease.

Cooperation and dissemination

I collaborate with Prof Bonnie Blazer-Yost, Indiana University, USA to understand the regulation of membrane transporters in the choroid plexus. I collaborate with Prof Brian Hansen, CFIN, AU, who is an expert in MRI scanning the brain in mice. The goal is to visualize the brain ventricular system in mice in different disease models. I collaborate with Prof. Jeppe Prætorius, Department of Biomedicine, AU to identify molecular targets to inhibit the production of cerebrospinal fluid.

Teaching

I teach gross anatomy and I am the course leader for the course "Functional Anatomy and Histology", which is the 2nd semester of medical school. I am a member of the censor corps for the medical education in Denmark and am the deputy chairperson of the Censor Board for the medical education in Denmark.

In my research group, I have had many different students over the years, ranging from bachelor students to PhD students.
