I received my PhD in Denmark, did my Post-Doc in Canada, and now work in as a senior scientist and advisor for the National Environmental Research Institute of Denmark, Aarhus University, where I also serve on the Academic Council. Prior to this I worked as Director for Environmental Safety for the Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) in Washington DC. where I managed the global hazard and screening level risk assessment of the largest OECD category of chemicals (> 30) and the highest annual tonnage (> 1.5 Mill. tons/yr) via the OECD HPV program. I have continued my professional education by following courses at Harvard, e.g. leadership, legal, and management training.
I have > 50 peer reviewed papers (including the most downloaded paper in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology in 2004), four book chapters; I am a reviewer on 17 international journals, and have dozens of presentations and posters at international meetings, including e.g. invited presentations to: SOT Canada on emerging contaminants, NOAA workshop on emerging contaminants, an US interagency Presidential Task Force on risk assessment of pharmaceuticals, Health-Canada on risk assessment of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), National Academy of Sciences human health risk assessment of pharmaceuticals in drinking water.
I have served on a USEPA Scientific Advisory Board panel for review of the EPI Suite (Q)SAR models. I also served on the OECD ad hoc QSARs Expert Group representing the global Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC), and I am appointed to a WHO expert committee on risk assessment of pharmaceuticals in drinking water.
I have organized and chaired several international meeting sessions (including a highlighted session at SETAC in Baltimore 2005 on risk assessment and management of chemical categories under HPV, REACH, DSL). I initiated the SETAC Advisory Group on risk assessment of pharmaceuticals as well as the SETAC precautionary principle work group.Research output: Book/anthology/dissertation/report › Report › Research
