Personal profile

Research

My primary research focus is on mapping and assessment of land use and land cover change. I utilize and integrate pre-existing categorical datasets alongside remotely sensed data. Additionally, I participate in multiple projects on mapping and assessing and modelling ecosystem services and biodiversity across both in rural and urban landscapes.

Commissioned

I have > 20 years of experience in research-based consultancy. I am responsible for mapping land use changes that are included in Denmark's greenhouse gas inventory to the EU and the UN and have for several years prepared national land use maps for Denmark https://envs.au.dk/en/research-areas/society-environment-and-resources/land-use-and-gis/basemap. I am involved in advising authorities and private actors, such as Statistics Denmark, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, the Danish Council on Climate Change, the Danish Biodiversity Council and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation.

Cooperation and dissemination

I have collaborated with a wide range of research and advisory institutions around the world. Currently, I am participating in international research projects on nature-based solutions in the EU and China (REGREEN project funded by the EU) and on the development of alternative crop rotations for climate adaptation (TRANSFORM project funded by the EU) as well as in a number of national projects with other Danish research institutions, authorities and private actors.

Teaching

I have supervised bachelor, master and PhD students and have been involved in teaching within geographic information systems. In addition, I am a regular external examiner for bachelor theses and master theses in geography and geoinformatics.
