I have >30 years’ experience conducting and leading seed physiology research, mainly in relation to understanding and improving the longevity of seeds in storage, and in seed genebank management. This includes many years working as part of the Seed Conservation Department of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in the UK and at the T.T. Chang Genetic Resources Center (GRC) of the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines.

I lead the Seed Quality Management activity of the CGIAR Genebank Platform, working closely with the Global Crop Diversity Trust and the CGIAR genebanks. 

I am Chief Editor of Seed Science and Technology published by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA), and a member of ISTA's Moisture Technical Committee.

In September 2021, I became President Elect of the International Society for Seed Science.
