My research fields are in child anthropology and childhood sociology. For more than 25 years I have been researching children's relationships and everyday life, educational visions and pedagogical work, minority children's and parents' experience of integration processes, and the material and cultural values of children's institutions. Particular interests include the role of children's institutions (families, pre-school institutions and schools) in relation to civilising processes, and cross-cultural perspectives on children's upbringing and interaction. In recent years, I have explored child-rearing conditions and educational mobility from province to metropolis. Currently, I am researching the relationship between ethnic minority families and educational institutions.
