Human studies of substrate metabolism and the consequences of diabetes and insulin resistance. Currently performing studies of the signaling effects of lactate in the gut and the metabolic consequences of increasing ketogenesis by pharmacological treatment and lifestyle interventions. Ongoing studies of galactose metabolism and the potential of lactose and galactose as carbohydrate sources in diabetes and during exercise to avoid glucose fluctuations.
