Personal profile

Research

The focus of my methodological research is on developing process tracing methodology, both for academic research and for policy evaluation. I am currently working on a four-year project (Mechanisms and Mechanistic Evidence in the Social Sciences) that aims to further develop case-based methods for both applied evaluation and academic research.

My substantive research focuses on topics related to European integration, including crisis negotiations and voting behavior in EU referendums.

Commissioned

I have engaged in numerous policy evaluations for UN agencies, the World Bank's Independent Evaluation Group, and the Joint Data Center (World Bank/UNHCR).

Cooperation and dissemination

Currently I am collaborating with a research project in Wellbeing Investments in Schools and Enterprises (WISE) project at the University of Birmingham, together with a number of health economists. I have earlier collaborated with the World Bank's Independent Evaluation Group on several country-level evaluations.

Teaching

I teach a range of topics at all levels (BA to PhD), as well as advise a number of PhD and MA students. In the past two years I have taught BA courses in Methods, MA seminars in 'US Presidential Election Simulation Models' and 'Case-based methods', as well as numerous PhD level courses in Process Tracing methods both for academic purposes and for policy evaluation. I have also co-written a textbook on foreign policy analysis and Process Tracing (in Danish).
