Curriculum Vitae

Research interests
•Plankton ecology (virus, bacteria, phytoplankton, zooplankton)
•Nutrient biogeochemistry in aquatic systems
•Carbonate chemistry in aquatic systems
•Global change impacts on aquatic ecosystems
•Application of biogeochemical sensors (micro- and in-situ sensors, and optodes)

Research summary

During my career I have worked with many aspects of marine plankton and biogeochemical cycles spanning from the degradation of organic matter, plankton metabolism, acidification, and impacts of climate change.

As part of my job as a research scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science I was leading a marine plankton and biogeochemical laboratory. As part of this job I was also the scientific leader of the Great Barrier Reef long-term water quality and carbonate chemistry monitoring programs, which combined in-situ sampling and sensors to detect sources and understand changes in coastal and open ocean biogeochemistry.

More recently I was employed at the Danish Environmental Protection Agency where I was leading the design of the new marine monitoring program to fulfil the requirements of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
