My PhD project "World Making: The Contradictory Contemporaneity of the Biennial as Global Form" investigates how the art biennial as an exhibitionary form produces and articulates contemporaneity today. Focusing on three art biennials – the Venice Biennale (2015), the Istanbul Biennial (2015) and documenta in Athens (2017) – the project examines how the transnational art biennial, as an intellectual, aesthetic and ideological phenomenon, has reconfigured the ways in which we perceive, produce and exhibit art. My project is thus situated at the intersection of art history, aesthetic theory and critical philosophy.
