Profile

Cecilia Arregui Olivera got her PhD degree from Aarhus University, Denmark, in 2023. Her research project centred on challenging the dominant ways in which peace journalism has been studied and understood, focusing on Kenya as a case study. The study is informed by literature on journalistic roles (and the gap between role orientation and performance) and postcolonial studies. Aside from her research, she teaches at the Erasmus Mundus Journalism programme as well as several other courses that delve into journalistic practice and video production. Born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, Cecilia worked as a journalist and video editor for national and international news media, including El Observador, Teledoce, Storyhunter and CNN En Español before starting her academic journey.
