Byurakn Ishkhanyan

My main research expertise is in language processing in the healthy and the impaired brain. More specifically, I have worked with clinical populations with aphasia and schizophrenia, investigating linguistic and other cognitive deficits.

Currently I am part of the Puzzle of Danish project, where we investigate why and how Danish may be different from other languages. Through a series of psycholinguistic experiments we explore the processing of Danish at phonological, sentential and dialogue levels. I am responsible for the experiments at phonological level.

I mostly carry out experiments, using behavioural methods and sometimes interfering with brain connectivity through transcranial magnetic stimulation. I am a proficient user of R and I program my experiments in PsychoPy.

Throughout my education and research career I have developed and taught the following courses:

  • Clinical linguistics/aphasiology/neurolinguistic analysis of speech and language disorders
  • Psycholinguistics
  • Experimental methods
  • Statistics (an introductory course)
  • Morphology and syntax (an introductory course)

I have co-taught or supervised the following courses:

  • Reading circle (discussion of neuro- and psycholinguistic research articles for masters students)
  • Experimental linguistic lab
  • Psychiatry
  • Armenian
