I am a professor in cultural theory and analysis. My current research focuses on participation in arts and culture, art and social communities, aesthetics and politics, as they unfold in various social and institutional contexts.

In my research, I prioritize collective projects oriented towards social challenges. I enjoy collaborating with partners in and outside academia and often work with participatory methods. Current research projects with external partners include CraftWorks: Creative, institutional and social potentials of new participatory forms at art museums (2021-24) and Participate. On participatory cultures in Denmark (2019-23).

Previous collaborative projects include Art and social communities in Danish social housing areas (2019-22), Engaging Knowledge (2018-19), TAKE PART – research network on cultural participation (2016-19), RECcORD: Rethinking European Cultural Centres in a European Dimension (2015-17), and Participatory Citizenship: New Experiences and Expectations (2014-15).

At Aarhus University, I have been co-directing a research program on Cultural Transformations http://cc.au.dk/en/research/research-programmes/cultural-transformations/ (2013-23). In earlier years, my research focused on modern and contemporary novels, on the Bildungsroman and on questions related to aesthetization, globalization and individualization.
