Personal profile

Research

I am a plant ecologist with expertise in chemical ecology of crop interactions with microbes and insects. My research is focusing on the improvement of sustainability in crop systems utilizing natural products and beneficial organisms aiming to replacing the need for pesticides in controlling weeds and insect outbreaks. To this end, I use an integrative research approach that combines chemical-analysis (LC-MS, HR-LC-MS) of small plant molecules (phytohormones, plant specialized compounds) and volatile organic compounds (GC-MS) and the impact on multi-trophic ecological networks in crop production to identify key phytochemical drivers steering ecosystem services for smart and sustainable crop production. We then identify strategies to replace synthetic pesticides in agricultural crop management practices and develop efficient production systems based on multiple ecosystem services to improve abiotic/biotic stress resistance and crop yield.
