Andreas Beyer Gregersen

PhD Student

Andreas Beyer Gregersen

As a student in Applied Philosophy, Andreas has worked for several years on the field of and interaction between philosophy and politics with a specific focus on negative political ontology. His Master’s thesis, written together with Anders Frederiksen Jensen, consisted in an analysis of present-day debt resistance using Slavoj Žižek’s version of dialectical materialism. The PhD-project takes its starting point in the academic debates and literature on the concept of civility in current Anglo-Saxon philosophy where one often tries to characterize civility as a specific order without giving much room to negativity and reflectivity. Against this background, the project seeks to investigate whether a reinterpretation and reconceptualization of civility which combines seemingly opposite perspectives might provide new approaches to our political culture. To this purpose, possible intersections between conceptions of civility as a normative order and civility as a questioning of or experimenting with normativity itself will be explored and discussed in depth. Thereby, the ambition is to contribute to the frontiers of social and political philosophy, transgress philosophical traditions and further develop thinking about normativity in general.
