Ph.D. project: The gendered data body - a sociotechnical study on menstruation and apps.
My Ph.D.-project is about women’s engagement with period-apps for digital monitoring of emotional- and physical changes throughout the menstrual cycle. I have an overall interest in the motivations behind the usage of apps for tracking then menstrual cycle and what the women-app-relation potentially means for their relations to menstruation and bodies. I do this by a qualitative inquiry via interview studies with users and producers of apps, and by an autoethnographic inquiry, to illuminate the potential interplays of privacy, data and knowledge between the fleshly and the data body and which sociocultural norms and discourses are embedded in the development and the usage of period-apps.
