Adrian S. Barfod received his B.Sc. in Geology from Department of Geoscience in 2012, with the thesis title: “Geophysical study of Mega-Scale Glacial Lineations on Djursland, Denmark”. In 2013, during his master’s program, he was accepted as a Ph.D. student at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and the HydroGeophysics Group (HGG) at the Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University. During his Ph.D. studies he started to gain interest in Computer Science, Geostatistics and Data Science for exploring the increasingly massive amounts of geophysical data collected worldwide. This avenue lead him to research within automated and stochastic hydrostratigraphic modelling of large-scale hydrogeophysical datasets. In 2017 he graduated from the Graduate School of Science and Technology (GSST) at Aarhus University with the thesis title: “Investigating lithological and geophysical relationships with applications to geological uncertainty analysis using Multiple-Point Statistical Methods”.

During his Ph.D. studies he has presented his research at several large conferences, such as the EGU General Assembly 2014 in Vienna, Austria, and the 2015 ASEG-PESA conference in Perth, Australia, where he won an award for the “Best Student Poster Environmental/Geotechnical”. In 2016, during his Ph.D., he spent a semester abroad at Stanford University where he worked on Geostatistical modelling and Machine Learning with Professor Jef Caers.
