School of Culture and Society

I work with German philosophy in the 19th century and more specifically the contemporaneous reception of Hegel, especially the Young Hegelians. However, I am also interested in the political and institutional reception of Hegel in a socio-economic and political context. My doctoral research centres on Young Hegelianism and Karl Marx and my dissertation is about Young Hegelian continuities Capital.

My supervisor is Andreas Beck Holm, and my co-supervisors are Anders Moe Rasmussen and Michael Kuur Sørensen.

Areas of specialisation

G. W. F. Hegel, Hegelianism, and the contemporaneous reception of Hegel; German Idealism; Karl Marx; Friedrich Engels; the intellectual history of Marxism, circa 1850-1970.

Other areas of competence/interest

Philosophy of science, especially the social sciences; philosophy of history and history of philosophy; German 19th century philosophy in general; the Frankfurt School (1st generation) and Critical Theory; ancient philosophy, mainly Aristotle; classical political philosophy; the institutionalisation of systems of thought; digital humanities and text-as-data methods for political theory and political philosophy research.

• PhD representative for the School of Culture and Society (CAS) at the Graduate School of Arts PhD Committee (observatory status).
• PhD representative, CAS advisory board ('institutråd').
• Deputy chairman of the union local for philosophy at Aarhus University.
• Member of the editorial board for the Danish journal for the history of ideas Slagmark, where I have recently co-edited vol. 77, "Karl Marx" (June 2018).
• Member of the executive board of the Danish Society for Marxist Studies, an academic society which aims to further research about and inspired by Marx and Marxism in Denmark, and which also organises the yearly academic conference Marx Nu! ("Marx Now!").
• Member of the Danish Philosophical Society.
• Member of the Hegel Society of Great Britain.
• Member of the Internationale Hegel-Gesellschaft.
