Bachelor's Degree Programme in Archaeology,autumn semester 2022/2023/2024Purpose:
Students are introduced to the development of the landscape, as well as changes in the prehistoric societies of the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. The Northern European territory constitutes the core area for the review, with constant comparisons with the broader context. Central excavation sites and categories of findings as well as current research issues are introduced. The significance and the particular challenges of findings and excavation sites from the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in current museum practice are thematised. Central topics may include: Metal foundry and textile technology, settlements, burial rituals, economy, trade and exchange and cosmology, the beginning of metal processing societies and civilisations in the rest of the world. The methodical and theoretical foundations of the archaeological interpretations are discussed, and the student will work with the basic frameworks for describing, identifying, systematising and analysing archaeological sources.
