Description

This course teaches students how humans are reshaping natural processes and the consequences of these changes for biological organisms. Global change is considered with respect to climate, geochemical cycles, habitat alterations, and biodiversity. Biological responses will be discussed over a number of scales bridging the individual, population, community and ecosystem levels. Students will learn to apply theoretical concepts to global change stressors of local significance. A major focus of the course will be humanity's options in responding to global change where participants will develop skills to formulate and evaluate science-based mitigation strategies and communicate these strategies in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting.
