Den French historian of ideas, Michel Foucault, has often been accused of naturalism like Nietzsche who was unquestionably a main source of inspiration for him. Yet, Foucault's historically oriented analytics of power clearly transcends naturalism and rather investigates - as in the case of religion - the concrete forms of power relations that can be seen as conditions of possibility for religion to rise at all. Moreover, Foucault tries to show that everything could also have been different and that there is no ontological necessity in the Christian notion of the subject.
