Marie Højlund - Invited speaker

TEDxVennelystBlvd is a licensed and independently organized TEDx event that seeks to re-create the remarkable experience found at TED. We highlight forward-thinking ideas that attract the most open-minded professionals and students from all fields around the common theme of Time and Timing. At our TEDxVennelystBlvd event, live speakers will spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

There are rhythms in everything around us and every person has their own individual rhythm(s). While the rhythms within us influence how we experience the world, those around us also shape us. In her performance Marie Hojlund loops a variety of sounds and vocals which give us an insight into her personal internal rhythm. It makes tangible how our sense of time and space and the atmosphere emerges in the relations between our internal rhythms and the rhythms in the environment. Marie Højlund is a composer under the alias ‘Marybell Katastrophy’, she has received numerous grants, released several albums and played in concerts and festivals in Europe, including Denmark, Germany, Austria, France and Italy. In her PhD research at the Department of Aesthetics and Communication of Aarhus University she studies soundscapes. She is interested in exploring various strategies to create dynamic atmospheres with sound, integrated into the physical environment in the shared space in hospitals. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
