Description

American values have been tested, re-assessed and re-confirmed through the history of American popular music: what Josh Kun refers to as “audiotopias,” or “everyday cultural spaces […] where difference and community are actively experienced and imagined, and where opposition and consensus actively butt heads.” This panel brings together scholarship on 20th and 21st century popular music, performance and identity, looking more specifically at how popular genres such as Country & Western, Folk music and Hip-Hop create audiotopic spaces.
