The main purpose of the STSM was to contribute to basic understanding influence of predators on the soil food web.
We reconstructed the food web of a glacier foreland area, which is a relatively simple ecosystem with few predators. The top predators are represented by ground beetles (Nebria rufescens), and spiders (with the dominant species Collinsia holmgreni, folowed by other Linyphid and Lycosid spiders). Harvestmen (Mitopus morio) are predators which could feed also on fungi and plants. Potential prey animals are springtails (represented by one dominant species, Isotoma anglicana, widely distributed and high quality food animal), flies, mites), and aphids (with one dominant species Thecaubius affinis).
