In this conference, we call together a broad range of scholars to reflect on impermanence as both an emic and etic concept of potentially rich theoretical value. Impermanence pushes us to remind ourselves of what we have always known. Things fall apart. Nothing lasts. Impermanence is broader than the end of life; it is microscopic quietude that leads to macroscopic erasure. Impermanence is then the inverse of becoming. It follow processes, first in the direction of the undoing, the unraveling, the coming apart at the seams, but also calls our attention towards acts of curation, repair and reinstatement.
