The computer has escaped its plastic encasing and has become ubiquitous or pervasive. Nowadays all things can contain computer chips and everything from mobile phones over clothes (Hug Shirt), sex toys (The Toy), and furniture (Sonic Bed) can be interfaces to communication, interaction and exchange of digital data. However, this penetration is not only a matter of technological development. It is primarily through cultural, aesthetic and social praxises that the interface and its technology is developing into a cultural phenomenon. This talk takes the pulse of the interface culture and examines how digital art and culture is interpreted and commented upon in contemporary art and how this art is created, spread and experienced through interfaces increasingly putting the body on the line.
