Description
The lack of qualified workforce in the Danish labour market means that many Danish companies compete with each other to attract and retain the best employees. One important management tool to successfully do so, are conversations in management. Conversations in management have until now been rather less investigated within the field of corporate communication. This paper wants to contribute to this developing field of research by presenting the results of a study on conversations in management. The study investigates how different conversations in management are used in companies strategically to the benefit of the relations to the stakeholders and the image or reputation of the company. The studied conversations are: recruitment conversations, job appraisal interviews, sickness leave conversations and dismissal conversations. The study shows that the companies are aware that the conversations should be used as tools for implementing the company strategy or values. However, the strategic potential of these conversations is not fully exploited and specific crucial aspects like employer branding are more prevalent in recruitment conversations than in the other types of conversation.
