This article identifies a Bible on the Danish island of Amager as a hitherto un- known copy of the 1614 Low-German Bible, printed by Johann Vogt (t c. 1625) in Goslar. Until now, only ten copies of this Bible were known to exist. Based on two handwritten Low-German texts on the front flyleaves, a dedication and a poem, it is possible to identify the last owners of the bible: the priest Frederik Carl Schmitto (1757-1833) and the bailiff Gert Cornelius Bacher (1776-1858), two prominent members of the Dutch community on Amager. The article goes on by identifying the poem as a unique Low-German translation of Christian Fürchtegott Gellert's (1715-1769) High-German poem ,,Ermunterung die Schrift zu lesen"/,,Encourage- ment to read the Scriptures" (1757) by Frederik Carl Schmitto in a Low German written-language variant commonly used by the Dutch community on Amager.
