N2 - This article addresses whistleblowing as an important instrument for a transparent and fair financial sector. It highlights existing mechanisms and regulations for internal and external whistleblowing in Germany, particularly in the financial sector, and compares them with other sectors and countries. Limitations and best practices as well as the impact of the current European Directive on whistleblower protection are also discussed. The paper concludes with an outlook as well a set of proposals for the expansion and supplementation of existing whistleblowing regulations, through which the financial center Germany can be strengthened.
