Abstract
The article argues for a new competence profile at the interface of strategic and journalistic communication, which aims to protect the common good and enable participation in digitization processes. Digitization as a cross-sectional task that has so far been communicated with significantly different expectations and resources by journalism, public administrations and companies in Germany. These expectations are reflected on and analyzed using the examples of the Online Access Act (OZG) and municipal initiatives in the field of smart cities / smart regions. In order to meet the demands of digitization as a civil innovation beyond purely technical problems, a competence profile is therefore advocated that is characterized in teaching and practice by a convergence of strategic and journalistic communication through design and techno-sociological approaches.
