Abstract

This volume collects the result of two workshops about the relationship between early town development and the castle inside or close to the town. Contributions from Denmark, Estland, Poland, Germany (Hesse, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein) discuss the interaction between a lord's town, his castle(s), the municipality and its morphological structure as a new source for research in urban history around the Baltic Sea.
