Abstract

The everyday lives of children take place across different contexts and care for children involves several caregivers. Therefore, problems in children’s lives must be understood in the context of a compound care system – as proposed by the SBFC approach (Soriano & Gerrard, 2013). Parenting entails dealing with the coordination and connections of the ‘chains of care’ in cooperation with various professionals (Andenæs, 2011; Højholt, Kousholt & Juhl, 2018). As they engage across contexts children create connections between school and their family. The social dynamics of children’s communities in school and parents’ knowledge about what goes on influences the children’s possibilities for linking the two contexts. Furthermore, the parents form images of their children’s developmental problems and strengths in relation to the children’s school life. The way children are given possibilities for taking part in communities in the school is significant for the way parents come to understand and relate to their own child (Kousholt, 2011; Højholt & Kousholt, 2019). Based on collaborative research with children, teachers, and parents this presentation addresses the interrelation between the children’s communities in school and parents’ perspectives on their children’s school life and the collaboration with the school.
