Abstract

Tillage is the mechanical manipulation of the soil to modify or ameliorate its physical condition with regard to plant growth for human and animal food production. Tillage operations include incorporation of fertilizers or crop amendments, seedbed preparation, seeding, and post-emergent cultivation for weed control. The requirements for tillage depend on the crop, the soil type and the climate conditions. Inadequacy of the tillage intensity with these conditions locally might lead to severe damages of the environment and the crop production systems.
