Abstract

Adsorption and self-organization of ferrocenyl-functionalized terpyridines on gold substrates were investigated in situ by optical second-harmonic generation (SHG). Film growth of these organometallic compounds could be detected in the submonolayer regime. The SHG data have been compared to the results of ellipsometric measurements and show that monolayer films are formed. Film growth is followed by self-assembly of ordered redox-active ferrocenyl nanostructures.
