    Abstract

The study’s primary objective is to explore researchers’ attitudes towards research evaluation indicators, i.e. H-index, publication and citation counts. Furthermore, the study explores researchers’ view on the Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator (DBRI) and investigates if and how it might have affected their research practice.
The study was carried out in 2013 (Febr-Sept) and consisted of a web-based questionnaire sent to 400 researchers in five Danish universities. Respondents were selected using systematic random sampling.
Preliminary data analysis indicates that researchers in Denmark are relatively negative towards research evaluation in general and that this resistance is connected to their main academic area. Researchers within the health, natural and technological sciences are in general positive while the Humanities and Social Sciences adopt a more disapproving attitude.
Regarding the DBRI the majority of researchers regardless of academic area respond that the indicator has not affected their research. The respondents’ elaborations on this however reflect a strong discontent and frustration with the implementation of the indicator.
As the overall response rate for the survey was 40% the results should therefore be accepted with caution and cannot form the basis of generalisation.
