    Abstract

The purpose of the chapter is to examine the policy ideas in the formulation of aims and measurements of pupil’s school wellbeing in the Danish ‘Folkeskole’ reform of 2014 . The analysis draws on methodological inspiration from critical policy scholarship in education, discussing wellbeing as a vehicular idea, its hermeneutic and contextual flexibility providing it with an ability to balance between different interests in policy. The paper closes with a discussion of concerns related to the twinning of pupil’s wellbeing with their academic achievement in education policy, and by suggesting potential implications of the proceeding analyses for policymakers and practitioners.
