The leaching of nitrogen from arable land is very important and therefore it is important to have methods for estimating the leaching.
N-LES4 is the 4th version of an empirical method for estimating the leaching from arable land. In this version the calculation methods has been expanded in order to also take into account the leaching from nitrogen in soil organic matter.In addition, the drainage from the soil has been split into 3 periods in order to take into account the period in which the drainage occur and the different crops has been subdivided into summer crops (main crops) and winter crops (sub crops). In addition, a few other minor changes have been introduced. The data used for setting up the formulas has been expanded with new data, so now 1467 observation have been used for estimating the parameters. The report includes a description of the data, the estimation method, the estimated parameters and a preliminary validation of the model - including a comparison with the previous model, N-LES3
