Abstract
Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCRDs) are frequently found in conjunction with other psychiatric conditions, often leading to complex clinical presentations. Comorbidity in OCRDs has been associated with greater symptom severity, significant developmental impact, higher levels of functional impairment and, often, attenuated treatment response. The prevalence and characteristics of the most frequent comorbid conditions of OCRDs, along with the theories and etiological factors that underlie their co-occurrence, are discussed in this chapter. The conclusion emphasizes the necessity of comprehensive screening for potential comorbid conditions during OCRDs assessment. Accurate conceptualization and tailored treatment approaches require comprehensive diagnostic and behavioral assessments in complex comorbid presentations. Understanding the impact of comorbid presentations may help clinicians devise more effective therapeutic interventions.
