Abstract
This chapter envisions the potential of a relational pedagogy for playful and collaborative higher education. A relational pedagogy of care, interdependence, resonance, and soulfulness, where playfulness mediates, permeates, and strengthens interpersonal learning and collaborative practices. The chapter argues that current education systems are heavily influenced by performativity, individualisation, and managerialism, which affect both teachers and students. The chapter examines how playful and collaborative learning processes can enable open-ended learning, joyful and social education processes, new strategies towards knowledge-building, and democratic participation. The chapter draws on theoretical-philosophical foundations to connect the concepts of educational care, human interdependence, and soulful space and how they can be used to develop a relational pedagogy. Overall, the chapter emphasises the need for alternative pedagogical practices to meet the demands of a changing landscape and suggests that a playful and relational pedagogy can offer something new and profound to counteract current tendencies.
