Performance management system development in SMEs: between cost and user experience

This paper investigates how SMEs can introduce performance systems from applying attractive, digital, low-cost technologies aligned with existing IT infrastructure. The project is exploratory, qualitative and systems-oriented in nature and develops the proposed concept through an empirical case study. The proposed concept is founded on elements from Microsoft’s infrastructure, Visual Management, persuasive technologies and affordance. The concept consisting of KPIs, a smartphone application, an interactive digital dashboard, and an improvement process, that all together is hoped to increase the performance of the sales department, by supplying relevant data and affording behaviour.
